Chiranjeevi Maddala

Chiranjeevi Maddala is an award winning digital marketing strategist with over 18 Years of experience in Digital Media and Marketing. He is the Founder and Chief Mentor at Digital Ready.

We must have interviewed close to 400 people for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) role in the past 5 years. It was a great experience to know about them and also it was bit shocking at the same time. When we asked about how do they do search engine optimization, most them said, keyword research, keyword placement, meta tags preparation, directory submission, social bookmarking, blog commenting etc. Very few of them talked about the importance of content. Search engines are becoming intelligent gradually, so should we. Gone are the days when stuffing your page with keywords and submitting in directories were bringing huge traffic to the websites. Search engines are increasing their data processing capabilities with intelligent programs.

What are Search Engines Trying to do for the User?

  • Give the most relevant search results for the key phrases entered
  • Increasing the relevancy by understanding the 'intent' of the user
  • Bring 'fresh' results than 'stale' ones
  • Give results based on 'social signals' and valid recommendations
  • Give results based on the strength of the structure and quality of the content on the websites
  • Display those websites which can provide great user experience, irrespective of the device
  • Eliminate the websites which are not helpful to the users

Digital is Just an Extension to the Physical World

Lets imagine you own a business. When someone walks to your physical store/office, what would you do? You generally try to impress him/her with all the good stories of your product or service and how they can solve the problems the customer has? You probably will also share your marketing brochure, appreciation from other clients, stories of how your product or service helped them etc. You get so expressive when you talk to your prospective customer, you also share good things about your company/product/service with your friends outside the company, you talk about them at events and do many more things just to impress and attract your prospective customers. Digital world is just an extension of the physical world. Same concepts get transformed into digital space. That means when you keep your website clean, and provide a great experience with well structured information and easy navigation, people will love it and share it automatically. When that happens, search engines love your website and they give you good score and show your website ahead of others who are not doing all these things.

So, What all You Should Know?

  • Understanding the client's business very well; their offerings, their target audience and the needs of them
  • Mapping the user's needs to the content on the website
  • Keeping your website always 'fresh' with content; which requires you to program your content strategically well ahead
  • Understand the difference between short tail and long tail keywords and where to use them
  • Understanding various formats of the content, and their impact on the search results
  • Taking your content to social space and get them on to the website
  • Creating great user experience on the website
  • Understanding the technical factors (clean code, speed, file naming, tags etc) and how to get them fixed
  • Constantly searching for keyword (keyphrase) opportunities and making use of them
  • Understanding the patterns with Analytics and program next action items
  • Understanding of analyzing competition and devising strategies to beat them
  • And many more...
