We must have interviewed close to 400 people for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) role in the past 5 years. It was a great experience to know about them and also it was bit shocking at the same time. When we asked about how do they do search engine optimization, most them said, keyword research, keyword placement, meta tags preparation, directory submission, social bookmarking, blog commenting etc. Very few of them talked about the importance of content. Search engines are becoming intelligent gradually, so should we. Gone are the days when stuffing your page with keywords and submitting in directories were bringing huge traffic to the websites. Search engines are increasing their data processing capabilities with intelligent programs.

What are Search Engines Trying to do for the User?

  • Give the most relevant search results for the key phrases entered
  • Increasing the relevancy by understanding the 'intent' of the user

As an SEO professional, you are responsible for bringing the natural traffic to the website. The more the better. Because, it will reduce the need for the client to spend money on advertising or other promotional activities. You should make the website as magnet for attracting relevant traffic.
