Visual search is going to be the next biggest trend in search. Visual search technology is improving and is expanding across various platforms. With the rising usage of visual search applications like Google Lens, Bing Visual Search, etc., it is apparent that visual search is going to occupy a significant part of search, along with voice search, by 2020. Social media is already a huge part of online marketing. Social media has now become a place for users to discover products of their interest, especially in platforms like Instagram, Pinterest and Facebook. Instagram and Facebook have introduced shoppable posts and shopping pages in their platforms. This integration of social media with e-commerce, and optimizing e-commerce sales through social media is one of the biggest trends for the coming years.

Private Messaging and Conversations

Private messaging has become one of the core needs of many social media users. Messaging platforms like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, WeChat are giving their users more privacy, security and control over their conversations. This also means that brands need to approach their audience in a more meaningful way while also ensuring their privacy on the web.

Interactive Content

Content always plays a crucial role in digital marketing, but there can be various kinds of content that can provide various levels of engagement and usefulness to the users. While articles and videos always have their own importance, the trend is tending more towards interactive content like quizzes, polls, Q&As, etc. which the audience can interact with.

Interactive social media posts are already a significant part of many social media marketing strategies. Let’s see if 2020 would be the year when a significant part of the web content would be interactive.

Chatbots

Conversational/Chatbot marketing has been on the rise in recent times as a more interactive and personal way of marketing. Rather than making the user fill forms on a landing page, chatbots engage the visitors of landing page/website and makes it easier and effortless for them to enter form details or information, make a purchase, subscription etc. in the chat itself.

Chatbots have been reported to increase the conversion rates while also providing better and interactive experiences to the users. While most people think of AI/NLP based scripting when someone says chatbots, but that’s not the case. There are many pre-scripted chatbots in usage in the market which are performing great. However, chatbots can use AI in a different way in the chat rather than for scripting. Moreover, chatbots are still being improved and developed.

AR/VR Integration

Immersive tech like Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) are going to play a significant role in digital marketing in the coming years. Keeping aside VR for now, AR is already being utilized by brands like IKEA which allows its users to test their furniture virtually using its IKEA place app

AR can offer many possibilities for brands and marketers to engage their audience, interact with their prospects and drive them towards purchase. Such possibilities are going to be explored and tested in the following years.

Precise targeting and personalization are the two main ingredients of a successful marketing/advertising campaign. Marketing and advertising campaigns are now being equipped with better data and intelligence so that targeting can be more precise and content/ads can be more personalized. Moreover, marketers and marketing platforms are making sure to accomplish these without compromising their users’ privacy.

Smart Bidding in Google Ads

Google Ads has introduced smart bidding which, according to them, uses machine learning to optimize for conversions or conversion value in each and every auction. Smart bidding strategies include target Cost-per-acquisition, target ROAS (return on ad spend), maximize conversions and enhanced CPC. Smart bidding has been introduced as a subset of automated bid strategies.

With smart bidding, not only businesses can have better conversions but also people can get more relevant ads.
