The pandemic has created a sense of panic in the entire population of our country. People are constantly on the edge, they’re worried about their health, their loved ones’ healths, their jobs, and so much more. Amidst all this chaos, how is ‘one of the most in-demand jobs’ faring? Is digital marketing still worth all the hype?

While these are unprecedented times and we cannot say anything for sure because nothing is certain anymore, we can still try to answer this question with the information at hand.

We had only just started recovering from all the trauma brought on by the first wave of COVID-19 and now the second wave is here, and it’s even more brutal. But all this is making one thing pretty clear, the definition of ‘normal’ has been changed forever. 

Our already digitally inclined world is only leaning towards it more now since the pandemic has made it crystal clear that the future is digital. Everyone is online. Owing to great network plans and an affordable range of smartphones at our disposal, why should anyone have to stay away?

Already the country that has the second-largest internet-using population, the number of users is expected to reach a massive 666 million by the year 2025. This is only elevating the value of digital marketing in the eyes of all the businesses and companies out there.

Do you know that many industry biggies have even started restructuring their budget to ensure that there are funds allocated to digital marketing? In fact, one of the oldest as well as biggest companies, Unilever is preparing to transition into a digitally focused company.

The company has even replaced Chief Marketing Officer with the title Chief Digital & Marketing Officer. According to the company, they are actively working towards becoming the “fully digitized organization at the leading edge of consumer marketing”.

Rise in Jobs 

Another interesting trend that has been observed, is that the growth of digital marketing in our country has been propagated due to major contributions of our metropolitan cities such as Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai. This is because each year, the number of jobs in this sector is only going up in these cities.   

However, owing to the second wave, these numbers are not expected to be quite the same. Everybody is suffering and subsequently, the number of jobs in the sector is going down. But as we have already established before, digital marketing is not going anywhere. 

Job Scenario in the Field

When we say the number is going down, we don’t mean that there is no way back up or that the number is so huge that it would take a lot of time to recuperate. As is the case with every industry out there, even digital marketing has been hit and people are being let go due to budgetary issues.

But having said that, digital marketing is also the industry that will play a key role in helping build things back up. As a dominantly digital future approaches, preparing yourself accordingly is the smartest way to go. Having a viable digital presence will become more important than ever for companies. 

Digital Marketing Growth in India 

Last year, it was being estimated that in the Indian internet industry, digital marketing is estimated to amount to a massive $160 billion by 2025 as reported by Goldman Sachs. While this is obviously an approximate value and liable to change, there are still a good four years to go.

In the digital world, things change at the speed of light and this gives the industry a lot of time to heal and come back stronger than ever. If you visit LinkedIn right now, even amidst all this turmoil, people are still working and trying to come out of this thing stronger.

So many jobs are listed in the various job profiles of digital marketing and this is only going to grow. As most of the people are now working remotely, something which is not going to change anytime soon, there is more focus on candidates that have good digital and technological skills. 

Importance of Digital Marketing in India 

In such a densely populated country, the importance of marketing only rises since every company out there is trying to win over the audience. Companies such as Dabur, which have been opting for traditional marketing for as long as we can remember, have recognized the significance of digital marketing.

They are actively working on boosting their brand awareness using online marketing and are doing a pretty job at it as well. The population factor also means that if you work hard enough and create quality content, there is an audience for everybody. Therefore, even after being hit by a pandemic as cruel as COVID-19, digital marketing is not going away anytime soon.
