The world of the internet is all about traffic. Anything or everything you do should bring in traffic to show results. All brands and even individuals crave for more and more traffic the reason being simple; everyone wants to be noticed by others and generate profit in some cases. And when we are talking about blogs, they can be a potent tool to bring in traffic if you know how to do it. We all know blogs have been into existence since a long time, but still, it’s craze has not gone down. So let’s figure out what makes a blog engaging and generates more traffic.

First, we need to be clear that there are many different ways of getting traffic to your blog, but here we are concerned about the content and not the promotion. So we will proceed accordingly and try to find out what makes an exciting and effective Blog Post content.

To create content that people like first, we need to understand the depth of the content that we are about to create. It sounds confusing, but it’s a fact that understanding what you want to create and knowing how to create it systematically is one of the keys. So, to begin with, let’s see how a blog comes into existence.

The primary steps to write a blog involves having an idea, research, outlining, and writing it down. These are the necessary steps that we all are aware of and follow to create blogs. But small tips or tricks within these essential steps can bring a huge difference, and those tricks are the keys to generate traffic. So let’s see the methods hidden in the necessary steps.

Identify your niche

In a day, thousands of thoughts cross your mind, and you get numerous ideas. If you try to figure out a topic for your next blog, then it becomes tough to finalize one. So to make things simple, you need find your niche by understaning what interests you the most and what you can keep on loving for the rest of your life. If you have any such niche for which you are passionate about then things become pretty easy for you. You don’t have to enforce yourself to research and learn new things; rather, it would be natural. And when ideas flow without pressure or naturally, then it becomes creative and reaches the crowd well.

In case you already have a website then you would like to focus on the same niche so that the same people who have visited your earlier blog may find this one interesting too. Apart from the concern of getting existing readers, it is also helpful to rank higher in the eyes of crawlers or search engines.

Selecting the topic may seem an easy task, but trust me; it is not as easy as it sounds. But once you know your interest and the niche you want to focus on, then it’s a bit easier, but that’s not all.

Identify the Sweet spot that attracts the audience

Suppose you already have an idea but will it be accepted by the audience? Whatever you create should be appealing to the audience and not just you. So how to find out the Sweet Spot that the audience will definitely like.

The answer to this is research. There are numerous tools to find out the keywords or the sweet spots which you should use. The Google Keyword planner can easily do this for you. Just type the ideas that you have and get suggestions for the keywords that people are searching on google.

In this image above the idea searched for is “how to generate traffic” and google keyword planner has given suggestions based upon that. It also mentions the number of searches that are made for a keyword and so you know which keyword is popular.

Make a note of the keywords and search volume for the ones that are popular and relevant to your idea. After that, you have to find out the competition for the keywords which you already found. If there is too much competition, then ranking for the keyword and getting traffic becomes difficult. To find out the competition you will have to search the keyword in google directly, but you have to put the keywords within quotes.

In this, we searched for the keyword “how to generate traffic on the website” and please note that the keyword is placed within the quotes. Now note down the number of results available for the keyword.

Once you search for the keyword within quotes and find out the number of results, now note it down beside the keyword. Now we have keywords and their monthly search volume and also the number of pages competing for the keyword.

Find out the KEI value using the data that we have. Divide the number of pages by the monthly searches or search volume. The keyword with lower KEI value is easier to rank and appropriate to consider. But again, you need to make sure that it has monthly searches as per your requirement and is relevant to your topic and niche. Forcibly adding keywords is not at all helpful nowadays because search engines are too smart now.

KEI Formula

Once you get the right keyword which has a good number of monthly searches and has a good KEI value and is related to your niche, then you can go ahead and formulate a blog around that keyword.

This step is important because whatever you create, you want it to be searched for by people and search engines are the most used way of searching data. It is not the end of your efforts to create an effective blog, but this is a crucial step which you cannot ignore.

Framing your blog post the right way

Let’s have an outline
Once you know your topic and also have the keywords that you will use, you can start framing your article. Make an outline that covers all the issues or points you want to express. It will help you in making your content more structured and organized. Often people make a mistake of deviating from the topic while writing because when you think and write, the mind starts exploring different corners, and that's when you get the strong urge to deviate knowingly or unknowingly.

Give what they want
People are looking for information when they search for something on search engines. So do not make the mistake of just giving some vague information. If you are feeding some needed information, then people will stick to it automatically, and they will even be waiting for your next content. So always be informative.

For example, if you search for "5 best mobiles in 10000" and you come across two blogs. In one they have only listed the names of 5 phones under 10000 which are the best in industry. And the other blog has the names of the phones along with the details of the phones. Imagine for yourself which one would you prefer clicking?

Catch them with Heads and Intro
Apart from informative content, you also need to focus on the headings because many people first read the headings or points covered before diving in to read the full article. They try to figure out if the content is worth reading because there are many articles available on the Internet. So your headings need to be attractive enough to grab attention.

Also, be sure to write some compelling Intro for your blog post because that will decide if people want to stay on your blog to continue reading.

Just imagine, you come across a blog post that has content that you are looking for, but once you start reading, you find out the Intro has an unclear message and grammatical errors. Then won't you start losing interest in the post? Same applies to your audience too. However, the only difference being, they will have many other options to go through, and so you need to be perfect.

Force your audience to read it

Yes! You read it right that you need to force your audience to read your content. But you cannot force them on Gunpoint to read it! Instead, your content needs to be compelling enough to force them. There are some rules to keep in mind while writing so that the content you write is attractive and brings in traffic.

Keep things simple
The basic rule is to keep it simple and easily understandable. Your audience will come to your blog because they are confused about the topic and need some clarity about it. And in such a situation if you present them with a puzzle to unsolve to reveal the message, then it's not justice to them, right? So try to keep it simple so that anyone can read and understand it easily.

Engage your audience
Next point which you might want to consider is to keep the post open for debates and ideas. It might not be possible all the time, but whenever there's a scope keep it open. That influences the reader to comment and share the content, and it brings in more traffic automatically.

It's always a good practice to welcome ideas as it encourages people to interact and feel connected. Always try to engage your audience because that's how you create your audience base. See some examples of it below, and you will know how to do it.

In both the examples if you notice the authors have tried to engage people in different ways.

Presentation matters
Apart from engaging, you also need to take care of the presentation on your page. While writing, we often have many thoughts to pen down, and it's not advisable to pen them down without pauses and breaks. Make your paragraphs short and informative. Don't make them too long because people tend to lose interest when they come across a massive dump of text. Instead, break them into paragraphs to make them more readable.

You might also want to take care of the font size, style, and spacing too. These things are too silly to mention here, but it affects your traffic and bounce rate. Imagine you open an informative website, but the texts are too clumsy like the one below:

How much time can you spend on this website? You might find helpful content, but the design and the font may not allow you to stay for long. So you need to make sure that the fonts that you use are comfortable to the eyes.

Optimize Google Images properly
Once you have aligned all your content, don't forget to provide some visual references as well. Readers feel comfortable to grasp some knowledge visually through images or videos. So don't shy away from adding some visual content or references.

And when you add some visual content, then it brings in the opportunity to attract traffic from Image Searches. So it's always a good practice to fill the Alt Tags of the images with accurate and essential keywords. This practice will open a doorway of traffic, which is ignored by many websites until now. But you shouldn't miss this if you are looking for good traffic to your blog.

Include your Address
It's not so common to add an address and details to blogs, but this might sometimes be helpful if you are targetting local audiences. Search Engines give more weight to local content in today's search results. Apart from that, it gives a feeling of genuineness and authenticity to your audience.

After Writing Effects

Once you have completed writing your post, you are ready to publish it but to generate traffic; just publishing won't help. You need to make sure of a few more points which might give an added advantage and bring in traffic.

Meta Tags, Meta Description and Rich Snippets
Write your Meta Tags and Meta Descriptions with equal dedication as you did for your blog post. Whenever someone searches on Search Engines, then the first two things visible to them are the Meta Tags and Meta Description. If you intend to get organic traffic, then these two things are a must.

In case, you are unable to visualize how your content would look without Meta Tags, then here's an example:

The description has pulled some random text from the article, and it's not at all advisable. Instead, the lines should be something eye-catching and attention-grabbing like the one below:
And if that's not enough, then you can also make use of rich snippets which makes your search result look even more attractive and trustworthy. So it's always a good practice to add rich snippets which will give a better feel like the one below:

To write the Meta Titles and Meta Description, you can install or use Yoast SEO and easily include these two fields while publishing the articles.

Make Platform Friendly
In today's online world, mobile devices hold a significant place, and so Google has started giving due importance to websites that are compatible with all devices. If a website is not mobile-friendly, then it affects the search result rankings. So to hold a good position, it is always advisable to make your website and the blog all-platform-friendly.

Optimize your URL
It may not be possible for all users, but if you have an option, then it's always better to have a small and structured URL that defines your content.

You can add your heading or the important keywords in your URL as well, and that might help rank as well. Apart from that, it also becomes easy for users to guess the content inside the URL. Even while social sharing, a small URL is preferred and attracts more attention. A long and heavy URL usually has a spammy impression, and people avoid sharing those.

Use Google Analytics to improve and update
When you write a blog post, then it's apparent that you would not want it to exist for only a few days and then gone. Instead, you might want it to grow day by day. So to achieve that you need to monitor the statistics of the post using Google Analytics and make appropriate changes from time to time. Using Analytics gives you knowledge about the keywords you are ranking for and the ones you are not, and so you can optimize your blog post accordingly from the suggestions given.

Build Links within your website
Visibility is the key to getting traffic. To increase traffic, you can link your blog post to some other existing and related blog post for reference. It will drive traffic from your good performing posts to the new one.

To Summarise
